Review, Where-we-are-now
Some Case Studies
****

Our objective is the “ICARAS, standards-based systems integration and interoperability” development and deployment of  “Trust Wide” medical images and health records over high speed fixed and mobile-wireless data links. We are the expert centre for acute care in the South West and we are connecting to all the Trusts and Hospitals who refer patients to us (we have connected to Swindon, Yeovil & Barnstable for now, over the NHS Net); we are also working on Cancer Care initiatives and have conducted nearly 32 Virtual eMDTs (~330 patients). We have a pedigree in PC based Telemedicine and Medical Informatics since the mid 1990s and have implemented a number of innovative e-health solutions. The Integrated Healthcare Enterprise, IHE development was designed to meet the growing demand for medical information OnLine in our healthcare arena over standards based e-health systems.

Standards based, Interoperable, Scalable “Best-of-Breed” LOW COST  Integrated PACs-RIS-HIS Implementation” strategy

INTRANET (Internal)

Real-time ultrasound transfers on ISDN6 (since 1996/97) ::: best-of-breed solution for real-time, remote foetal and paediatric US cardiac scans between Truro and the Bristol Children’s Cardiac Consultants (this model can be used for any remote sites and emergencies)

Emergency medicine solutions for image transfers using mobile communication technology for Ambulances, Paramedics and A&E Support (since 1998/99)

Trialled Smart Card based solutions for IHE(1997/98) ::: Multicentre-Cardiovascular-Multimedia Database(1998/99)
